It may seem like a pretty straightforward job but Coldroom construction involves a lot more than just creating an insulated white rectangle and plugging a refrigeration unit into it.
Planning the room so it works well and doesn't overwork the unit is essential. This is done by taking into account the size of the room and asking the client what kind of demand will be placed on the refrigeration unit.
There are then thermal breaks to consider, the room may need a blast port, floor heating, door heaters and ceiling hangers may be required.
To build a coldroom a tradesman must be a qualified builder, carpenter or erector. Refrigeration contractors are not allowed to construct a coldroom over the value of $3300 (including the value of materials) in accordance with schedule 1A, 2 and 42 of the QBCC Act.
